The U.S. Open is always a star-studded affair, and opening night this year at Arthur Ashe Stadium was no different. Up in the stands was Red, White & Royal Blue star Taylor Zakhar Perez, who wrote on Instagram that this was his first Grand Slam tournament.
On Instagram, he posted a series of photos and videos, including of Novak Djokovic playing, and of the U.S. Open’s official poster, which celebrates Billie Jean King and 50 years of equal pay at the tournament.
The comments on his post were full of references to Red, White & Royal Blue, with one fan writing, “be honest, you’d rather be watching a polo match……..,” referencing a scene in the romantic comedy. Another wrote, “Where is Prince Henry?” and a third added, “That’s one of the most Alex outfits he’s worn in a while,” conflating Zakhar Perez with his character, Alex Claremont Diaz.
For the night out in New York, Zakhar Perez appeared to be wearing a Thom Browne t-shirt that featured a red, white, and blue striped trim—perhaps a nod to his recent film. One eagle-eyed Instagram commenter wrote, “loving the red white and royal blue details on the fit 👀”
In a photo posted to the U.S. Open’s official site, he is seen chatting with One Tree Hill star Bryan Greenberg, who attended with his wife, Jamie Chung. All three of them were in a box with La Roche-Posay, the official sunscreen partner of the tournament.
Also in attendance at the U.S. Open last night were former president Barack Obama and former first lady Michelle Obama, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Gayle King, Seal, and Danny Devito, among other celebrities and politicians.
